Ames REpair resources
(Select your model below. Resources within each section are grouped by assembly size.)
Notes:
- We recommend installing new rubber parts during any repair. Our re-build guide contains additional information that you may find helpful for repairs on assemblies 2" or under.
- Some manufacturers economize by using a single manual or video to cover a range of related models and sizes. While the assemblies portrayed in your manual or video may not exactly match what you have, general design and repair procedures are the same. We do not produce these manuals or videos and are not responsible for their contents.
- Anybody performing a repair is responsible for following all applicable plumbing and safety rules. Due to the serious dangers of low oxygen in large underground work spaces (such as utility vaults), DO NOT attempt a DIY repair in a vault. Please consult a repair company with the equipment and knowledge necessary to safety enter a vault following OSHA's confined space rules.
- If this all feels intimidating, and you'd like some in-person help with repairs, we do offer step-by-step repair consultations to help guide you through the process. Contact us for additional information.

Note: Ames does not produce a repair video specific to these models, but assemblies in this production line are very similar (and in some cases identical) to the 007 series produced by Ames' parent company, Watts. Watts offer a very generalized video that covers repair of the 007 series and related models. You can access that here. Where the video instructions differ from the manufacturer's repair manual, always follow the manufacturer's model-specific instructions in the manual.

Note: the Ames 4000B is a rebranded version of the Watts 009. While Ames does not produce a repair video specific to the 4000B, the videos below (produced for the Watts 009) should be helpful. Where the video instructions differ from the manufacturer's repair manual, always follow the manufacturer's model-specific instructions in the manual.

(Opens in a new window. Instructions in this video focus on the repair of the check valves and will fix most relief valve discharge problems. If you have a slow-opening relief valve (indicated by a relief valve opening point of less than 2.0, as shown on your test report), you should also be cleaning the relief valve parts, especially the diaphragm, and replacing all relief valve rubber components. The general repair video below has additional details on this process, but also includes repair instructions for a wider variety of models, not all of which is specific to this assembly. We always recommend purchasing new rubber parts for installation during repair. A complete rubber parts kit should be used in the even that a check valve is failing. For a slow-opening relief valve, a relief valve rubber parts kit is less expensive and will usually do the trick.)

(Opens in a new window. This includes a fairly complete run-through of how to service all the internal parts of the 009.)
